The artwork is by the amazing Australian artist, Dickson Payne at Internal Flux. He is a wonderful neurodivergent artist with a focus on industrial abstract art.

Dickson Payne’s work captures images of everyday life, reveling in exposing the character in the common place and the familiar…

… The artist’s paintings have an intensity rarely portrayed with such simplicity, that speaks volumes by displaying an emotive depth of rich colour and striking texture. The deeply personal yet simple nature of the artist’s work invites you into a world of an artist who breathes life into the ordinary.

I personally love the ambiguity of the image. I find it evokes the impression of the dye-staining process of DNA sequencing. But not quite. It’s fuzzy, and unclear. Which, for me, is a perfect analogy of what giftedness is about and the state of the science as we currently understand it.

And for those interested in what the book is about? Here is the back cover.

text:

Is Giftedness a myth? What is a Gifted Child? Why is Giftedness such a hot-button issue? Where does the fear and dislike of ‘gifted’ come from?

Come on an adventure about how Mrs Einstein, newspaper articles from the 1920s, and the San people of the Kalahari Desert can help us understand what gifted is – and is not.

In an easy-to-read style, Gifted Myths explores these and other stories on the history, science, and lived experience of gifted and twice-exceptional families.

Gifted Myths is a must-read for parents, educators, and professionals who work with gifted and twice-exceptional children.

Never have I encountered a more simple, elegant and warmly accessible breakdown of the myriad myths that continue to plague the gifted community.
